When it comes to reducing wrinkles and creating a more youthful appearance, there are two very popular options that are available. The first, and less invasive is Botox, but how does this compare to a facelift? After all, they are both doing the same job, right? So, how much different can they be? Turns out, a lot. Here are a few things to know about getting Botox or a facelift in Chicago or your area.
Botox
Let’s start out with Botox. This uses the same neurotoxin that is produced by bacteria in contaminated canned goods. Funny enough it is the toxic properties that surgeons are after here. It works to reduce wrinkles by blocking nerve signals to the muscles. This causes them to relax which causes the wrinkles to diminish. Needless to say, this is only a temporary fix, and it is not going to be very effective for severe wrinkles. This option is generally best for fine line and wrinkles, but not for sagging skin. Since it works by relaxing the muscles, it will not do anything for people with sagging skin on their face or neck.
Facelift
Now, moving on to a facelift. This is a surgical procedure, rather than simply an injection and involves the removal of excess skin. The surgeon will make well places incisions and remove excess skin from your face and neck. They will then close the incisions by pulling the skin taunt. By doing this, they are removing any excess skin which gets rid of any sagging skin or wrinkles that may have been present.
If you are worried about scarring from a facelift, then don’t. Your surgeon knows what he or she is doing and will make the incisions in discreet locations like along the hairline. This will conceal any scars that may appear once you have recovered.
