Training while Boarding Your Dog in Ft. Lauderdale

Puppies are small, adorable and often fluffy. They are also a lot of work to train and require a significant amount of time and dedication. This training should be interrupted as little as possible, even while you travel. Therefore it is well worth the time invested to find dog boarding in Ft. Lauderdale that offers dog training on top of their other services.

While most boarding locations will offer some form of training or another, it is incredibly important that you find a trainer that trains in a fashion that you are not only familiar with, but also comfortable with. Both in the method of training and in the method of correction.

Training your dog can take quite a few steps back if you are training with method X yet the Ft. Lauderdale dog boarding facility you are using uses method Y. While method Y is suitable for many dogs, and many people use this method, it does not necessarily work for you, your dog or your situation. If your training method is very soft-handed and the focus is on positive reinforcement and treats but the trainer uses harsh words or firm physical contact, your dog may get confused and will often react in one of two ways: flight or fight.

Another thing you need to research about the trainer is to find out what training tools they use. The trainer should stick to tools that you have been implementing which your dog will be familiar with. If you use a flat collar and a normal 6-foot leash, using treats or a toy as a reward, that is what the trainer should use. You can even supply the toy or treat of your dog’s choice to ensure continuity and discourage confusion.

Whether you are looking for dog boarding in Ft. Lauderdale for a week or a month, continuing your dog’s training while you are away will not only benefit your dog, but you and your family as well.  Plus, it doesn’t hurt to have a pro take over for a few days of r & r!
