Not everyone is satisfied with their physical appearance. For women, insecurities about breast size and shape are especially common. You may have experienced a loss of breast volume as a result of pregnancy and breastfeeding, or you may have naturally small or disproportionate breasts. With breast augmentation in New York, you can remedy one or all of these issues.
The Implants
The implants are shells made of silicone and can be filled with either silicone gel or saline, another name for salt water. Though each filling has different characteristics and advantages, both are extremely safe. Your plastic surgeon can help you determine which type is the best fit based on your specific needs.
The Procedure
General anesthesia is used to place patients under before the procedure, so you’ll be completely unconscious for the duration of the surgery. Incisions are made in less visible areas of the torso to decrease the noticeability of scars. For example, your surgeon may choose to create incisions in the underside of your breast, in your armpit, or around the dark skin surrounding your nipples, which is called the areola. If you’ve chosen to use a saline-filled implant, there’s also the option to have the incision made near the naval.
Once the incisions have been made, a pocket is created by lifting the natural breast. The implant is then inserted and positioned to achieve the desired shape. The incisions are then closed with stitches, taped and bandaged. The entire procedure can take up to two hours. For more details, click here.
The Risks
Like all surgeries, there is the risk of complications when going under the knife to receive implants. There is the chance of infection, pain and swelling and a change in nipple sensation. If you’ve been nursing within the last twelve months before the procedure, you may experience changes in milk production. Other complications affect the implants themselves, including the possibility of rupture resulting from normal movement, compression or injury to the breasts, and capsular contracture, which is when scar tissue contracts and changes the density and shape of the implants, making them misshapen and hard.
Complications from breast augmentation surgery are not common and, if they occur, are usually minimal. Following all of your surgeon’s pre- and post-operation instructions will drastically reduce the chance of complications.
The Benefits
Surgical augmentation isn’t for everyone, but you may find it a viable option to create the body you’ve always wanted. You may be a candidate for breast augmentation in New York if you’re in good physical and mental health, not nursing or pregnant, and want to improve your breast shape, size or symmetry.
