When to Hire Movers in Lancaster, PA

When people are looking to hire movers, they are often uncertain as to how long before the move they should hire the moving company. Although this amount of time can vary depending on where you are moving to and when it is best to start looking for moving companies as soon as you know, you will be moving.

Summer Moves
A general rule of thumb is to book a move, at least, eight weeks in advance. However, if you plan to move within the same city during the summer, which is the busiest time for movers in Lancaster and beyond, then book as soon as possible, and ideally, two months before your planned date. The most trustworthy and dependable movers typically fill their slots two to three months out, so waiting until only a month before your move can result in a limited number of moving companies from which to choose.

If you are looking to move within the same state during the summer, you may also face a limited number of movers in Lancaster PA or the surrounding areas that provide this service. Therefore, plan to contact a mover at least 10 to 12 weeks before the move and, at least, two to three months in advance during the summer months.

Interstate Moves
Moves across state lines are more complicated than ones within the same state, so it is best to contact a moving company at least 12 weeks in advance of your interstate move, particularly if it is during the summer. Off season moves are less competitive but still require a notice of eight weeks. Here also, you may find fewer moving companies that offer services the further away that you move from your current home.

International Moves
These types of moves are the most complicated as there is a lot of paperwork that needs to be completed and logistics that need to be worked out. Here you can book movers in Lancaster, PA or from the surrounding areas three to four months in advance, but it is preferable to do so, at least, six months ahead of time. Also, you need to take into consideration the country to which you are moving, meaning that a move from the United States to Canada is much easier to facilitate than one from the United States to Europe or Asia.

In general, the busier the season and the longer the distance of the move, the more time that is required to find a moving company.
