Signs that A Driver May Need Car Engine Repair

by | Feb 14, 2017 | Automotive

Many vehicle owners don’t know how to tell if their engine needs to be repaired. Some people rely on the “check engine” light on their dashboard to light up and let them know that it is time to take the vehicle to the mechanic for repair. Unfortunately, this light won’t always turn on if there is something wrong with the engine. It is up to the vehicle owner to be able to recognize the signs that they need to see a mechanic for car engine repair.

A Knocking Sound Under the Hood

If a vehicle owner hears a knocking sound under the hood, they should take their vehicle to a mechanic immediately. The moving parts of the engine rest on engine bearings. If the bearings start to wear out, they can cause a clanking or a knocking noise under the hood. The bearings can wear out if the vehicle’s mileage is very high or if they are worn out. If the bearings need to be replaced, the mechanic may need to partially rebuild the motor.

Excessive Exhaust Smoke

If the vehicle owner notices that there is more smoke coming from the exhaust pipe than usual, there could be an engine problem. If the smoke is black, it means that the engine is burning too much gas. If it is blue, there is likely an oil leak. If the smoke is white, there is likely a coolant leak.

Decreased Fuel Efficiency

If a driver notices that they are not getting as many miles per gallon as they did before, a mechanic should look at the vehicle. It could be something simple and easy to fix, or it could be a serious engine problem.

Lack of Power

If a person’s vehicle cannot get up to speed fast enough, if it idles roughly, or if it takes longer than usual to warm up, it should be looked at by a mechanic as soon as possible. All of these are signs that the engine needs to be repaired.

If a driver notices any of the signs listed above, they should take the vehicle to a mechanic for car engine repair. The longer the problem persists, the worse the problem will become. For more information, visit website. You can also connect them on Facebook.
