Radio Engineers File Type Acceptance Forms for Their Communications Gear

Chances are that most industry insiders aren’t aware that FCC type acceptance and approval documents still must be filed for a majority of devices that put out some kind of electromagnetic radiation. The fact of the matter is that these are still very important. Anyone who uses the 27MHz spectrum and expects their equipment to work under Citizen’s Band regulations will need to submit proof that it can be type accepted.

You might be thinking that most devices on these frequencies are essentially Part 15 radiators these days, which could technically be the case. However, that doesn’t mean that Part 15 devices don’t have to go through a very similar radio frequency type approval to licensed equipment. Engineers are required to at least ensure that the devices in question are safe and won’t cause problems.

While it is true that the original type of acceptance documents has been written out of the rules, most devices have to either undergo verification or carry a Declaration of Conformity. This type of radio frequency type approval process is every bit as stringent in many ways as the original one. That’s why so many manufacturers and hardware vendors are starting to turn to product acceptance professionals who can check over all the equipment they sell and make sure that it operates within its given specifications. This gives technicians the opportunity to make corrections before the product in question goes to market.
