Ford is known for being on the forefront of innovation. Henry Ford once said of his company’s innovation, “If I had asked people what they want they would have said faster horses.” Ford’s company is still holding true to this statement by being the first manufacturer to release an extreme off-road ready truck straight from the factory with the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor edition. If you are considering getting a Ford Explorer for Wheeling then check out the Raptor first, it may surprise you.
Still At the Top
Since Ford introduced the Raptor a few years ago, Dodge and Chevy have finally caught up and started making their own factory off the road-ready trucks. They are the Rebel and Reaper respectively. While it may have taken them longer to get to the market, that does not mean they are better. Both the Ram Rebel and Reaper Fall short of the Raptor.
True Factory Performance
Where the Raptor really stands out is that it is a factory ready off road truck. This means that you can drive it out of the factory and straight onto the trails. The Ran Rebel is not actually meant to compete with the Raptor but is instead a tougher version of the Ram 1500, similar to the Ford FX4 or Toyota’s TRD models. That is not to say it will not handle trails in stock form, but it is not going to compete with the Raptor either.
The Reaper, on the other hand, is sold as a factory off-road truck but is not actually assembled as is by GM. Where Ford assembles each Raptor at the Ford plant, Chevy sends their Reaper models off to a third party to have them modified. Since Chevy is having their trucks modified to give the performance needed the upgrade is significantly more expensive. The most expensive Reaper cost over $20k more than the Ford Raptor. You can expect to pay more for a base model as well as they have the same starting MSRP, but the Ford is a Super Cab base model, the Reaper is a single cab base. Likewise, the Ford is stock 4×4; the Chevy is 4×2 in its base trim.
When it comes to overall value and performance, the Ford Raptor remains at the top of the food chain. It was the first of its kind to be released in recent history and is still the most capable.
