Invisalign is a relatively new alternative to metal braces. The aligners are made from clear plastic, they are ideal for those who are reluctant to be seen with traditional metal braces, which are effective, but unattractive.
Invisalign in Chicago was introduced to the market in late 1999. The system consists of a number of plastic aligners, each one slightly different. The aligners; which are comfortable to wear and removable when needed, gradually straighten the wearers teeth over a period of time. Invisalign aligners are quite thin, no more than 1mm thick and the surfaces are smooth; the combination of surface finish and thickness make them comfortable to wear and pose no potential of abrading the gums or the inside of the mouth.
How do Invisalign aligners work?
Although the product has only been commercially available for less than 20 years, the concept goes back to the 1940s. Originally it was necessary to make numerous impressions of the teeth as they changed position; the concept employed by Invisalign is far simpler; it requires a single impression and series of photographs which are taken during the initial visit to the dentist.
The impression and photos are used to create a 3D computer generated image; the image predicts how the teeth will appear as they change position in small increments. This image is what is used to develop a complete series of aligners that will eventually result in the teeth being in the desired position.
The dentist receives a full set of aligners but only gives the patient a couple at a time. The aligners are changed every two weeks; the patient only has to return to the dentist every month for a check-up and new aligners. Each aligner, over a two week period moves the teeth about one quarter of a millimeter. The aligners can be taken out when eating and brushing but must be worn at least 20 hours a day to be effective.
Approved for use for adults both young and old:
As long as the patient has fully erupted permanent teeth, Invisalign in Chicago is an approved orthodontic procedure. It is important, especially for teens and young adults to realize that they must follow strict instructions; the length of time they must be worn daily, the food and drinks they must avoid, regular visits to the dentist, etc.
Although the rules may appear strict; the treatment usually is over in less than a year and the results are well worth the discipline that was followed.
Invisalign in Chicago is the ideal treatment for people that have crooked or misaligned teeth. Invisalign are comfortable to wear, unobtrusive and can be removed when eating and for cleaning.
