Although it is no longer used in building products or in construction today, chrysotile is still a problem. That is because the substance was used in the manufacture of building products in the United States until the 1980s.
Even after this time, some building products containing the substance were added in homes. Therefore, the fibrous and naturally-occurring mineral continues to be a big issue as many structures contain products that feature the material.
A Dangerous Material
The material was primarily used in insulation, in ceiling and floor tiles, and in products that resist heat or fire well. Therefore, you can find it in a large number of older commercial and residential buildings. The trade name given to the mineral is asbestos and the removal of the material is still continuing.
Contact an Abatement Specialist
If you plan to remodel a property, you need to have an inspection made and arrange a removal of asbestos in Portland, CT if it is needed. Otherwise, you stand a good chance of getting sick if the substance is disturbed. Therefore, a company that is experienced in analysis and abatement can assist you in determining if the mineral is in your building or home.
A Health Hazard That You Cannot Ignore
Indeed, asbestos is a health hazard that takes form many years after the fibers of the mineral have settled into a victim’s lungs. The building material leads to such illnesses as mesothelioma, lung cancer, and asbestosis. Mesothelioma is a type of cancer where the lining of the lungs is affected. Because the tiny fibers of the mineral embed themselves in the lining, the substance remains dormant for a long time. People exposed to the fibers years ago are being diagnosed with mesothelioma or lung cancer today.
Do you believe that you need an inspection or removal of the mineral? If so, request a free estimate for abatement services today. If you plan to renovate your property, contact a remediation company. Make sure that you do not experience any problems when making an upgrade.
