For a do-it-yourself project, LED strip lights are a wonderful way to add a touch of light, an accent or focus area or to create a unique look with lights that is both practical as well as original.
These are cables or strips that are actually a flexible design on a circuit board. The strip contains the lights and is mounted to any appropriate surface. The strip itself is plugged into a power supply, sometimes called a driver, to allow for easy illumination inside or outside of the home.
There are different options in output for various LED strip lights. The low output lighting strips are typically used for accent lighting. High output lighting is brighter and more substantial, often used for pathways, under railings on decks or to light up outdoor living spaces. It is also a good option for under the counter lighting in kitchens. Medium output lighting is between the two and can be used in both residential as well as commercial applications.
Lighting Stairways
A unique way to use LED strip lights is to light indoor or outdoor stairways. The strips can be placed on the bottom side of the each stair, casting light down onto the step below. Using the low to medium output strips can provide the lighting level you need and increase safety.
Surrounding Mirrors
Using LED lighting by placing the strips along the inside of the frames of mirrors in the bedroom, bathroom or any room of the home creates a classic effect. By choosing the low output options, this also allows the mirrors to serve double duty and night lights.
This same method can be used in the frames of pictures or artwork, or even to outline bookcases or display cases. There is really no limit to what can be done with these lights, including adding light strips to your kid’s room for night lights they are sure to love.
