Is It Time to Replace Your Windows?

by | Sep 20, 2016 | Window Installation Service

Imagine for a minute if your home had no windows. Picture a living room that only had solid walls and never let any light in. Wouldn’t that be terrible? Even though windows are actually not that great regarding temperature regulation or structural integrity, no home is complete without having large windows with which to see the world and expand your vision. But are your current windows as good as they should be? Are the frames cracked, worn, or otherwise visibly damaged? If so, then it might be time to replace them. Here are four ways to tell if you need window replacement.

Is that a Draft?
One of the biggest indicators that your windows are past their prime is if you can feel air coming in through the frame. Even if you can’t see a gap yourself, if you sense a slight breeze, that means it’s a good time to upgrade your windows. You could try to fix the problem by caulking the edges, but that is just a temporary solution.

All It’s Cracked Up to Be
If you have any cracked or chipped windows, then you already know that you need to replace them. Although you can try to swap out the window pane itself, that can sometimes be even more of a hassle than removing the whole thing. To ensure the best window replacement, get a whole new window and frame.

Hot and Cold
Have you ever touched your windows lately? How do they feel? If you notice that they are exceptionally hot or cold (depending on the ambient temperature), then that is a good indicator that they need to be replaced. Good windows shouldn’t heat up or cool down that much, so if you notice a remarkable temperature change in the glass, it’s time to replace.

Condensation
Finally, if your glass gets condensation on it, that means that the seal between the pane and the frame is loose, and air is getting in. When the seals are gone, it’s time for a window replacement.
